Jibreel's (Alāyhis Salaam) Speed

One Day, The Messenger Of Allāh Sūbhana Wa Ta'Ala ﷺ Asked Sāyyiduna Jibrēel (Alayhis Salaam) If He Had Travelled At His Fastest Speed. Jibrēel (Alāyhis Salaam) Told The Prophet ﷺ That He Had Travelled At Full Speed On Four Occasions. The Prophet Of Allāh Subhana Wa Ta'Ala ﷺ Then Asked Him When Those Four Occasions Were.

The First Occasion Jibrēel (Alayhis Salaam) Recalled Was When Ibrahim (Alāyhis Salaam) Was Placed In Nimrod's Fire. At The Time He Was Near The Arsh (Throne) When Allāh Sūbhana Wa Ta'Ala Ordered Him To Go And Cool The Fire Of Nimrod So That He Was Not Harmed. He Left The Arsh And Descended The Seven Heavens And Reached Earth In Time To Cool The Fire.

The Second Time Was When Ibrahim (Alāyhis Salaam) Had Placed His Beloved Son Ismail (Alāyhis Salaam) On A Stone In Mina And Was About To Sacrifice Him For The Sake Of Allāh Subhana Wa Ta'Ala. Allāh Subhana Wa Ta'Ala Ordered Sāyyiduna Jibrēel (Alāyhis Salaam) To Quickly Go To The Heavens And Take A Lamb, Then Rush To Mina And Replace Ismail With A Lamb Before Ibrahim Struck The Knife. He Did So Before The Time It Took Ibrahim To Raise His Hand To The Knife.

The Third Case Was When The Brothers Of Yusuf (Alāyhis Salaam) Placed Him In The Well With A Rope. As The Brothers Were About To Throw Him In, Allah Subhana Wa Ta'Ala Ordered Him To Go To Canaan And Save Yusuf (Alāyhis Salaam) Before He Landed At The Bottom Of The Well. He Reached The Well And Placed His Wings Underneath Yusuf (Alāyhis Salaam), Thus Cushioning His Fall.

The Fourth Time He Travelled At Full Speed Was When The Holy Prophet ﷺ Had Damaged One Of His Blessed Teeth In Battle. Allāh Subhana Wa Ta'Ala Ordered Him To Stop The Blood Reaching The Ground. Otherwise, Until The End Of The World, No Plant Or Tree Would Ever Grow. So Hearing This He Dashed From The Heavens And Reached Him ﷺ And Saved The Blood With His Wings.
