Imam al-Muhaddithin Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari RadiAllahu Ta'ala Anhu was born on the 13th of Shawwal, 194AH, in the famous city of Bukhara—present day Uzbekistan—and passed away on the night of Eid al-Fitr, 1st of Shawwal, 256 AH.
Imam Bukhari RadiAllahu Ta'ala Anhu devoted his entire life collecting Ahadith of the Prophet—Sallallahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam—and acting upon them. He memorised 300,000 Ahadith and compiled a book of Ahadith, commonly known as Sahih Bukhari, which is universally acknowledged as the most authentic book after the Holy Quran. He was asked, 'Are you the one who has committed seventy thousand Ahadith to memory?' Imam Bukhari RadiAllahu Ta'ala Anhu replied, 'I have learnt more Ahadith than this by heart. I even know the place of birth, death and residence of most of those companions from whom the Ahadith are narrated."
Warraq stated: "In a dream, I once saw Imam Bukhari walking behind the Prophet—Sallallahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam—and his feet would fall exactly where the feet of the blessed Prophet had fallen."
Farbari stated: "Once in a dream, I met the Holy Prophet—Sallallahu `alayhi wa Sallam—and he asked me, 'Where are you going?' I replied, 'To Muhammad ibn Isma'il [al-Bukhari].' He then said, 'Go, and give him my Salam.'"
Imam Bukhari RadiAllahu Ta'ala Anhu spread the Ahadith of the Prophet—Salallahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam—wherever possible and Allah spread his status to every corner of the world. It is a fact that as long as the traditions of the Holy Prophet—Sallallahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam—are mentioned in gatherings, lights and blessings will shower onto the resting place of Imam al-Bukhari from the Most Merciful.
As-Salamu 'Alaika, O Imam al-Muhaddithin. By your noble rank, may Allah fill our hearts with the love of Sayyiduna Muhammad—Salallahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam—and grant us Tawfiq to follow the Prophetic Way. Ameen
